Andree was the first aeronaut who in 1897 practically attempted to travel to the North Pole by free balloon. This book concentrates on the aeronautical part of Andree's expedition, paying special attention to the polar balloon and its equipment, the polar weather, and the aeronautical competency of the three members of the expedition.
